The scandal of medical witnesses being retained on opposite sides in courts of law and crivin" what looks like partisan evidence is often the subject of remark and sneer, and it is mooted that if medical men cited as witnesses by opposing litigants were to meet in consultation before thecase came into court and were to arrive at some sort of agreement regarding the fact and the opinion founded on these, much of this scandal would be avoided. The proposal is a plausible one, but it is very doubtful whether judges, juries and counsel would agree to this preliminary and private trial of the medical issues in cases, and it is also very doubtful whether, the variety of experience and judgment which must exist among the ministers of so variable a profession as that of medicine, could be reconciled and homologated by confer-
